1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS454
“B4OPEC”

About
I have always like what I refer to as the early super trucks. The El Camino can be called a car or truck but that's been a long standing debate for sometime. Does it make a difference? Anyway I pick this car up down in the south Florida area. The car is not in bad shape for it's years. Has the typical rust spots starting to show that is normal with these cars. The bed is in really good shape which surprised me which made me wonder if anything was ever hauled in it. The car has had a repaint to the common color combination typically see. The ID tag numbers reveal it was orginally a green mist car and a dark green vinyl top with a Lt saddle interior. Hopefully I can get it back to the orginal in the next year.
Specs
When I bought the car/truck the seller kept telling me it was a LS6. However I was not going for that because GM would not have installed the LS6 in a air condition car/truck. So at best it is likely a LS5. After purchase and getting the car/truck home I had to admit the engine was extremely strong. It pulls hard and quick to remove as much rear rubber your heart desires. So I checked the block numbers and confirmed it was a 454 but a 1975 vintage. When I looked closer I discovered the winters casting on the manifold that was painted to match the color of the engine. Winters did the aluminum manifolds for GM. Looking a little closer it appears to also have the 291 LS6 heads. So it appears to be one of these sneaking Pete deals where someone did not want to reveal who had the bigger stick. Once I get into tearing it down I will update this site with what the real story is.
