About
The Double Deuce
Our 1948 Chevrolet Truck Thrift Master Model 3100
Total frame off restoration started in 2002. Completed in 2003. All parts were sand blasted and no bondo was used in the restore. The paint color is Regal Turquoise 552 563. The truck is powered by a Pontiac 301 V8 engine from a late model car. Also added was the three speed auto transmission with a Locar shifter and a GM 10 bolt rear end with highway gears from the same car. The truck will cruise down the Freeway at 70 mph and is very comfortable to drive.
All of the brakes, emergency brake, pedals, steering column came from a GM car. American 5 slot wheels with 60 series tires were added for looks and comfort. All the dash gauges have been replaced and a custom auto sound stereo was added. The heater has been totally rebuilt and updated. All electrical was changed to 12 Volt. Turn signals, were added and all lights changed to 12 volt. The firewall was replaced with a smooth no hole wall. Everything on the bed was replaced including the tailgate, sides, front, wood etc. The custom painted striping was done by Lenny in Las Vegas.
We feel the truck is not over done but tastefully detailed and finished for comfort.
Jerry and Mary
Specs
The truck is a 1948 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup, Model 3100. It has a V8 small block with an automatic three speed transmission. It weighs 3,405 lbs. (actual weight from a dump scale) The truck will cruise down the Freeway at 70 miles per hour.
Factory Options
An effort was made to keep the sheet metal origional and keep the door handles etc. as we want the truck to remain a 1948 Chevrolet Model 3100 ThriftMaster, but a very cool one!
Jerry
Mods
The truck was totally disassembled down to the ground. The body is still steel. The bed was pretty much rebuilt with all new runners, wood, front, sides, and tail gate were replaced. The fire wall was replaced with a smooth one (no extra holes etc.)
A GM front clip has been added to the truck and it has power rack and pinion steering. It has a Pontiac 301 V8 and it has a few added whistles. The truck has a three speed auto transmission with a Locar shifter and a GM 10 bolt rear end non posi.. The fuel tank has been replaced and is now a black 20 Gallon tank. The engine and transmission is cooled with an electric fan that appears to draw almost 20 amps (that is a lot for a fan) it works great and there is no over heating issues at all.
The pedals and the steering column are from a 1980's GM car. It does have duel exhaust out the back. The only other things I can say at this time is the truck has all new chrome grill, all new chrome bumpers, all new chrome door handles, all new window mechanisms and all new glass with new rubber around.
On the inside the gauges are retro but brand new. It has an AM FM cassette that is well done. New painless wiring through out the truck. All the lights work and it has turn signals. Seat belts have been added and they are the shoulder type (a pain to install).
The wheels are American five bolt with 60 series tires.
The paint is a slight metallic and clear coat. The pin striping was done by Lenny at So Cal Street Rods here in Vegas. The interior is custom, not too fancy but very nice.
We do feel the truck is finished but not over done!
