About
I'm the sponsor of a local high school car club, and we're fixing up this car with the intention of raffling it off to create a memorial scholarhip. I had a student pass away last year of cancer, and I thought this would be a great way to remember him.
When I bought this car, it was actually one of a pair of cars - with one to be used as a parts car. Right now, one car has been successfully parted out, and we're in the process of getting the other car at least running. We have a few obstacles to overcome:
1. We don't really have a place to work (my wife's sense of humor about giving up her spot to do what we've done so far falls with the temperature . . .)
2. We don't have a budget (We've done a little fundraising, but nothing like what we need to get things rolling. The idea is to sell off parts to pay off the cars, and then use the extra parts to either pay for fixing up this one, or keep the parts for a future project . . . like a kit cobra . . . why not dream big!)
3. At the start of the year, we didn't really have a club - I took over the club this year, and as such there weren't any guys. We now have around 40 on the list, about 30 that regularly come to meetings, and 5 or so that have had a chance to help out directly with the cars.
4. When we started, I didn't have many of the kinds of connections it's going to take to make this work, but that changes every day!
