1991 Isuzu Stylus XS

- When I decided to sell "The Godfather" I was driving around with a 'For Sale' sign in the windshield. Pulling out of a parking lot, a guy, literally, came running up to the car and asked how much. I told him I was asking $5,500. He said he'd give me $5,500 cash plus the car he was driving if he could have it today. "Uhhhhhh. Follow me to my house, my friend!" He brought me a cashier's check, and the title to this car.
- He apparently had a killer system in it when somebody smashed in a couple of windows, stole the system, and broke the dash trim to get the radio. So, anger got the best of him and he mutilated the car with spray paint (economy security system, I guess). Fortunately the spray had only been on a few days so rubbing alcohol took it off without damaging the clear coat, and it ended up pretty nice.
- The cool part is the "XS Lotus Edition". The 4-cylinder red-lined at almost 8,000rpm. Fun! The suspension was designed by Lotus (a European supercar maker). This car cornered like a dream. Yes, there are better cars, but for a boring looking 4-door econo-box that got awesome gas mileage, this car was surprisingly fun to drive especially on some of the Hawaiian mountain roads!
- We ended up selling it for $1,000. Worth more, sure, but it was all profit to me!
