About
It all started in 1984, when my oldest sister got married. Her new husband had an 84 Cutlass Calais. Black, grey sport buckets, rally package, Olds Ralleys.......beautiful. When they decided to get rid of it, they KNEW I would love to have it. They sold it to me for a dollar. 1 dollar........drove it for a couple of years..got a wild hair and traded it in. What a DUMB@SS!! I regretted it ever since. I found an 82 on the cheap (not cheaper than a dollar though), and had hopes of building it into what I wanted the 84 to be. No way it would work, though. Sold it. I finally (last May) found an 87 Salon, on eBay, in Franklin, Kentucky for a cool grand. Drove up there and hauled it back to Tennessee. Drove it for a while, and have put it up, collecting various parts. It has the same 307 the 84 had......same color, same package (though in 87 it was a Salon, not Calais--since Olds had made the smaller front wheel drive the Calais)..basically the 442 options minus the stripe package and the subtle performance changes. Put a set of Olds ralleys on it, and some new Yoko's....am building a 1966 Olds 330 (factory 10.25:1 comp.) that I picked up in Rock Hill, SC (from eBay). Had the machine work done on the block...bored .040" over, Egge pistons, Mondello/Comp Cams internals, Engles cam.....and a guy at work is doing the Mondello inspired port and head work for me. I am looking (I think) at around 385 horse for the package. Bought a built 200r4 from Kozek in Kentucky, with a Grand National torque converter, and am looking at a Strange rear for it. I think it will be fun ripping the factory peg-leg 7.5" rear out of this thing, when together!
