I feel sorry for people who feel the Mustang is such a great car. I have owned a 1965 Mustang and at least 7 corvairs. I have to admit the corvair was way ahead of it's time.
Corvairs were the first american cars to have the following.
1) Four wheel independent suspension.
2) First mass produced american car with a rear engine that was air cooled and turbocharged. It also came with the first 4 single carb engine.
3) First unibody american car.
4) Corvair did not need power steering or power brakes.
The fact is Mustang did start the pony car era, but the american public failed to see just how good a car the 65 corvair has become. Mustang was at first, a falcon at heart with new sheetmetal and a bigger motor. I like Mustangs, but Corvairs had alot going for them. The american public is finally starting to take notice. In conclusion, Ralph Nader did not kill the corvair. He was proven wrong, but good news don't sell newspapers.
