I bought the car from a freind who was having trouble making rent. He didn't want to part with it, but his son's birthday was coming up, and I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. The block was cracked, and it had been sitting for a few years. I found an ad in the nickel ads, for a pair of squarebacks that the guy just wanted gone. I then rented a trailer, and headed out to get the cars. I pulled the engine out of the 71 squareback, and rebuilt it using all of the bug's cooling tin.
Bought in the spring of 1995 for $600.00 and after a few mods ( Rolls Royce hood ). In April of 2003 with up coming back surgery a friend took the car and made it into the car you see.

Were there any options on a 72 bug?
Fiberglass 37 ford front end kit. I didn't do the paint myself. Pink flames would not have been my first choice. I bought it this way. The sad part is, I don't think they washed it before they painted it. Seriously. I think they masked off the glass, and chrome, and just shot it as it sat. No prep work whatsoever. The paint is flaking off here, and there. I intend, maybe this summer, to but a Subaru 2.2 in it. Kennedy clutches makes a kit to adapt VW transmissions to Subaru engines, so I'm going to give that a shot. I'll re paint it, while it's stripped down. If I get real ambitious, I might do a turbo. Doubtful, though. There's already going to be a lot of modification for the cooling system.
You tell me...Everything on this car is modified....Fenders , Paint, 4 inch lift on deck lid. 4bbl. carb.,ceramic coated header and muffler, ceramic coated VW roof rack, surfboard signed by builder in Hawaii, LED turn signals front and frenched in the rear, custom leather seats in front, ( none in the back ) Empi hood, American Racing wheels all round ( 15x8 fronts and 15x10 on rear, monster tach w/shift light...etc....
