Description: The "CLASSICS" Car Club of Onawa, Iowa hosted their 26th Annual Swap Meet Weekend August 16-17 at the Monona County Fairgrounds in Onawa.
Great weather set the scene for a cooler and comforta ble weekend compared to what we have been experiencing lately, attracting vendors and buyers from five states to this year's "Meet".
Vendors were registered from Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Kansas and Missouri, with over 50 pulling in on Friday to set-up and barter amongst themselves before the weekend opened to the buying public.
Although we were down some in vendors from last year, it was reported to us that other Swap Meets around the area were experiencing the same, lower numbers of vendors. Be it gas prices or what, we still had a GREAT WEEKEND.
Saturday showed a on-surge of buyers who carried a lot of 'stuff' back out the gate with them. . .many making several trips of great buys.
Almost all the vendors said they had a good day Saturday, and although the crowd was a little lighter on Sunday, many said they did well that day also.
Saturday night, our club members always enjoy a cookout on the grounds and this year was no exception. . .huge steaks and chops were grilled on one of our food vendors large grilles, who let us use it instead of our small kettle grilles we had. This allowed us to cook everything at once. . .heck, one of our vendors was so happy with his sales and our hospitality, he carried over a big, iced-down cooler full of sodas for our club, saying the party was on him
That's the kind of friendships this meet has grown into over the years. . .afterall, the Onawa SWAP MEET is by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts. Our Motto is: We treat you (the vendors) like one of us. . .because you are!!
Enjoy and make plans to attend our annual Swap Meet the third weekend in August!!
