i recently posted a pic of a beautiful girl leaning on a nissan with the logo clearly visible
i then said: "we had body by fisher and the rice burners have????"
the best response was "quick rice"
but some people said the term "rice burner" is a negative and i shouldn't use it
i thought it was only a class like muscle car, classic, pre 49, or one of the many other classes of hot rods.
please speak up and let me know what you think
    ps
we dont want to hurt anyones feelings about there car
we all love our rides or we wouldn't be on here.
    thanks

I think they refer to them as "Import tuners". Not positive though. I have noticed that wether texting on cell phone or sending email or blogging, people do not get the opportunity to sense your inflection in making comments and sometimes take things differently then they were meant simply because they didnt here the snicker or giggle in your voice. I dont know of anyone person on here that purposely degrades someone elses car, but it seems to be taken that way from time to time. The smileys help a little, but we all need to remember that on this site in particular, we in the most part are friendly folk. There are plenty of other sites out there that do nothing but "trash talk". Thats where the people who want to do that need to stay.

Import Tuners's back up what they talk . I KNOW i have nothing done to my car compared to MANY people. But I will never be a ricer , Because I like cars for the cars , NOT for the money ,sponsers (like any REAL car guy has any anyways)

But to each his own , let people think what they wanna think

I like the term tuners, it is the younger generation that will carry out the rodding. Some day when they are our age the new term may be flotters, don't even have wheels.

The need for is growing and spring is time to bring out the BARR"S AM for the shake down run, hope all of you are ready as I am.

I think I can help ya'll out on this one. I'm a younger guy and I know what they mean to me and my friends.

Ricers are considered to be punks. Mostly people who put a fart can on the back and a huge intake filter and think they just got 50+ hp.

Rice Burners are the cars that Ricers drive. If it sounds like theres a angry bee in a tin can, a rice burner is near.

Import Tuners are people with a passion for import cars. They do good work and have respectable cars. These are the best kind of enthusiasts from the import world.

Most true tuners will get verrrry pissed if you call them ricers.

    Civic(usually)=rice

    Skyline=Import Tuner

im not trying to offend any so please dont take this the wrong way. IMO ive always considered the term "rice burners" as a deragatory remark about modded import vehicles.

I always thought "rice burner" was just a slang name for an imported Japanese vehicle. When the Tuner scene erupted, you had the same 2 groups of people as the muscle car scene, People that knew what they were taking about and people that tried to sound like they did. (still do today)

Those people that that were all talk ( usually just a fart canon muffler, alot of stickers, and a stereo) are what I assumed people were refering to as a "ricer"
People that actually knew what they were talking about and had heavily modded cars were "rAcers".

Calling someone a ricer is derogatory. I guess its kinda like calling Bill Gates a hacker. lmao image

    ***********************DISCLAIMER**********************************

Im not insinuating anyone is a ricer or hacker. wink image

I also agree with most of what you said too , but saying one car is a ricer over another is saying "this is not a real car" When i know people pushing 350 horses in their 1500 lb or less civics ( Do the power to weight ratio on that and see what it compares too)

But in any group of people are idiots that makes us all look bad , so let's talk and get it out there and learn from each other and ignore those types

yeah man, like the other guy said - "ricers" are the guys who think they know what they're doing and "tuners" are the ones who actually know what they're doin. when i use the term "ricer" it's for some punk who talks crap about me and my car, and then when its go time comes up with some excuse like "wellll, you see, my ECU has a virus" or "ah man, i was doin 150 racin a porsche the other day and blew a ring."

i don't intend to offend anyone, but when things get heated i sometimes do. when everyone has the right attitude tho, it's all good, and thats what i love about good old fashioned car nuts.

I've always known the term, or looked at the term irt being "nice or rice", meaning the car either looks good, or looks sh*tty. I have had alot of comments on my red cavy about it being "rice" with the mods that were done to it. Honestly, you build up the car for yourself and no one else, right? so whats it really matter anyway if someone thinks your car is so called "rice". As long as your happy with it, thats all that should matter. Yeah, i think its a cruel term to use to describe someone's else's car. IMO from another car guy (quoting john aka caurnut76), lol

I so agree, these cars have owners and what comes with ownership? The right to do with it as you please. Not everyone aggrees with each mod made to this car or that car, but if it isnt owned by you then dont fret over it. I think if i were to guess, our parents all taught us if you cant say something nice, then dont say anything at all. I believe the term "ricer" or "rice burner" is derogitory, but i dont think that the original start of this particular post was started because it was meant that way. We are all car folk, and we all have different tastes. But i dont believe that the majority of us would purposely be hurtfull in things we say.
