Well its getting to be the time where we all start thinking about what our plans are for the winter, i know im kinda early, but im just thinking for now, im not planning on starting all of this until at least october november.. As i have recently decided to keep my car and clean it up this winter i am planning on pulling my engine and rebuilding it, nothing serious, at best a h/c/i package. but more importantly i want to scrape and repaint my engine bay because it looks horrible right now with the undercoating some idiot sprayed in there.

so here are some before shots of my engine bay

as you can all see its disgusting under there im embarrassed to pop the hood.

ive spoken to a few people who have done it before and it seems the way they did it was pull the motor, tape off the whole wiring harness, and sand the bay down by hand. i know a few of you guys have been in this boat before so any advice you could give me i would really appreciate.

    thanks,
    -sam

    andy wrenching on something

    oh boy here we go...

finaly after a year of anticipating

the sludge all over my motor can be attributed to the fact that my valve cover bolts were all finger tight...

and finaly i pull the heads...

    and number 6 is hit!!!

this used to be a spark plug...

but overall the block looks good, still hash marks on the cylinder walls

I was going to suggest hitting the engine compartment with some brake-clean and a stiff brush....but I see you have that in the last picture!
    Have Fun!!!

gene, again congrats onplacing top 3 in racingjunk.com's competion!

    the brakleen is a lifesaver.

i did some pressure washing today but i was dumb and didnt pre-soak it in degreaser last night, the grease and dirt comes out fine but the undercoating is tough to get under even with full pressure. so i did what i could for now and put it back in the garage for the night with a heavy coat of purpe power on all the tough spots, hopefully i can get it done tomorrow but i bet its gonna take at least another week to get it fully stripped and prepped.
