Just wondering how '71 through '73s qualify as "another incarnation" of the first gen 'birds when they use the same subframe, body panels and interior parts (with only minor variations) as '74 through '81s.

Don't really understand what that has to do with calling them a 1st gen. But to answer it let me put it this way. You have a '98. Doesn't it have the same features as a '97? Besides, most '08s do look like '07s.

My point is, in 20+ years I've never seen anyone not define 2nd gen F-bodies as '70 - '81. They share the same subframes, same fenders and doors (with minor changes to brace locations and the size of the door handle recess) glass (with the only change being the rear window which occurred after '74), etc.

I agree, i dont feel there are any substantial differences int the 70-73 and the 74-81 to call them anything other than part of the 2nd gen group.

There is No confusion... 2nd gen starts 70I/2 and ends with 81... No way an extension of first gen. Shared little to no components with 67-69.. It is What It Is! 2nd gen ALL THE WAY!... I own one of each gen. Every book you pick up describes 1st gen as 67-69, 2nd gen as 701/2 thru 81, 3rd gen 82-92 and 4th gen as 93 -2002. My son just got his 4th gen ws6, pewter in color. He has always loved my 2000 Bird now he has one of his own. ( he thinks the 69 clone is part his.) See my definition of father /son project.. Drove it some in high school prior to its Trans Formation! Y'all be good now!

Try buying parts for a First Generation they will only work on 67-69 you couldn't cram them in a 70 at all, I will have to say 70-73 it is difficult to find some parts that were specific to those years 73 noses are really tough to find that was the year the govt passed new bumper laws 70-72 will fit but it's not what came from the factory.

Yeah, I'm agreeing with everyone else here, the site has it wrong; the 71-73 birds are part of the second generation not an "incarnation" of the first generation.

The 70 -73 are totally different for the First Gen 67-69. The 70–73 are the start of the second gen. I would say less than 10% of the first gen parts are interchangeable with the second gen firebirds. But on the other hand most 70–81 second gen parts are interchangeable.
