Well it’s that time of year again and we are working on plans for next year’s run. We would like to have your input so that we can make some decisions. We are considering moving the dates from May to June for the 2013 run. Instead of leaving on Mother’s Day weekend, we would leave on Father’s Day weekend. (Week of June 16, 2013) We are considering a “Great American Road Trip” departing from Restore A Muscle Car in Lincoln, NE and making stops in the badlands of South Dakota and visiting places like Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Monument, Sturgis, Deadwood and finishing up in Golden, Colorado with tours of the Coors plant and a party. Because some of the roads we would take are impassable in May, we would need to move our dates to June. We just need to know how you feel about the possible route and date change. Thank you!

I think it is great idea for a road trip. Moving the dates will help those of us who have kids in school (and spouses who teach) who would like to attend. School finals have always hampered us in the past, though we did make a family weekend out of it in Texarkana in 2012. To bad the kids had to go home early. I have never been farther west than Oklahoma and Mount Rushmore is a place I would like to visit. I say they need to carve out a Phoenix on the next hilltopsmile image I hope this works for others as well. I am officially signed on for 2013.

Any day above ground is a GOOD day!!!

Sounds awesome! I would love a trip out west in June! Adam and I were just discussing how we wanted to see Mount Rushmore again since it has been a long time for us both. As usual "Mom", you are doing a great job! smile image

June is good and should help some who haven't been able to make the trip before. I think it's great to have Coors involved as it is part of the story too. This is a great chance to link up with a new sponsor and to meet some new Bandit Runners. From Ohio the mileage will be about the same as the other runs. My guess is the Texans are also about the same. The Nebraska and Missouri contingent will have a much shorter drive. The scenery should be great and the roads should be less restricted. This should be a really good time plus I can torment everyone with stories of my cousin "Stubb Farlow" and his horse being the Wyoming state symbol.

I think this will be one of the best runs....great combination for the families to enjoy! It does make me wonder Reds carburetor is pushing all it can now....its built up but I don't think has any adjustments .....can the old cars handle the altitude change without adjustments?

Unfortunately, this trip will probably need two weeks of vacation time, and I know that Frank and I can not take that much time off from work, when we have other plans throughout the year. Also, if we had a 4th gen, we would definitely think of doing the first part of the run.

I do however love the idea of the different scenery/destinations, because this gives the chance for others that live up North and West to experience this event.

The dates sound much better for those that are still in school.

Someone had mentioned about having two runs throughout the year. Maybe a summer one for the West Coast, and a fall one for the Southeast Coast. I know that would be a LOT of work in the planning two big events, but that would be an AWESOME idea!!!

Debbie, you also have to keep in mind, that you have many here that have offered to help you with the planning stages, so that it all isn't on your shoulders. You have done a GREAT job with all the planning for the past events, and we all know how time consuming it has been.

As you know, the date in June would work great for us, since our wedding is in May. However, she'll have a new job, so doubtful she would be able to swing the second week that close to the first, and same goes for myself, but we'll most certainly try. I'd love to go out West, considering Texas was as far out as we had ever been this past May. Like the idea a lot though, regardless of if we can make it. biggrin image

As a recommendation....We could stop by Gillette, Wy on the way to Sturgis. Thats where Devils Tower is located. Its really easy to get to and we would take the most amazing pictures of the birds with the tower in the background. Devils tower is known for 2 things. Its the first National Monument declared by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. Secondly, Devils Tower is the big rock formation in Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Food for thought! scratchchin image
