1940 Pontiac 5 Window Coupe (Thrills)

Last updated Jan 3, 2010

Photo of a 1940 Pontiac 5 Window Coupe (Thrills)

I owned this coupe previous to my yellow 31 Ford and did an incredible amount of work to this car. I purchased it locally out of long term neglected storage from one of those bargain papers so popular before the internet.and it needed quite a bit to get it back on the road.
This was not an internet or Ebay built car so alot of work went into finding parts to build this one. It was an old fashioned style build.
I had a Camaro sub frame grafted on to it along with the 350 Chevrolet engine and TH350 transmission from the same car. I couldn't find anyone who had done this swap into an early Pontiac so it took a lot of time and adjusting to get the front sitting right. I then rewired the whole car, did the interior myself in black leather from a mid eighties Volvo (bought the whole car, stripped it right out), used the armrests, carpet actually anything that was in better than good condition. Then got it painted an awesome hot pink remembering the colour of Thrills gum I took in a pack to the painter and asked him to match it. This was a relatively large coupe, very nice rake but in the end not my style even though it was a stunner and got a ton of attention on the road. There is something to be said for a non billet rod build along the lines of the original rods with used parts and lots of imagination and love......

This car was purchased by a local well known rodder for his wife and is doing just fine as a driver.
