I found this car for Sale in Garner, NC. It was an original 400 Trans Am that had been purchased for parts. The car had sat for so long a small tree had grown up through the floor pan. This was my second project TA.
The Silver 76 Trans Am has retained most of its original parts. The engine is numbers matching however the transmission had been replaced when I purchased it. It currently has a TH-400 from an earlier Pontiac. Silver Exterior with Custom Black Interior, including the Charcoal decals. Added a nice silver Kenwood CD deck that enhances the car's interior sound. As far as performance goes; The engine has been rebuilt close to stock except for the Comp 1.52 roller rockers. Money was a factor at the time. Has 6x-8 heads, Edlebrock performer intake; Edlebrock 795cfm quadrajet (tuned slightly); upgraded ignition parts; distributor plates and centerpiece from a 78 W-72 car; TH 400 rebuilt with shift kit; swapped rear axle from 2.41 for a 3.23 rear posi gear. I have not had the car on a dyno or down the strip since all of these changes.
