This car was probably a Test Mule for the SVO. I will explain why…
In 1980 the largest V-8 available was a 255 ci. This car has a 302 ci 2 barrel carb with an aluminum C4 automatic with factory shift kit. The rear gears are 3:55. The mileage is a true 47,511 miles currently. I bought the car with 31,500 miles. The car has been in storage almost this entire time!
As you can see in the pictures, the stripes and the cobra on the hood are two tone blue and the interior is burnt orange! Somehow I don’t think this is a combination that would be intended for sale!
I have owned this car with my father since the fall of 1982. The car has not been started for the last 4-5 years. I would plan on regasketing the motor before it is started.
I was looking for a car as a project for Auto Body school and this car is what I chose. It was hit on the passenger’s front. The car was located at a small insurance pool lot in Southeastern Nebraska.
The story that I was told is as follows (I have no documentation proof)…
The car was used as a mule for Ford from late 1979 to the spring of 1982. After it was retired it was “loaned” to Thoroughbred Ford in Kansas City, MO as a show car. Reportedly someone removed the car off the showroom floor for a quick ride. The “quick ride” ended in an accident. The dealer’s insurance company took the car before Ford could take the car back. The serpentine tensioner failed and it took 3 weeks for the local dealer to find a replacement (1986 E-150 van).
I will try to describe the current condition as accurately as possible. The paint is badly faded and needs to be redone. The carpet and headliner are ok but should be replaced as they are starting to rot from storage.
The car has some slight surface rust in a couple of spots (I tried to show in the pictures) but NO rust-through anywhere on the car!
The reason I’m selling is due to a lack of storage space. The car sat out last winter and I HATE to have it sit out again this winter.
