That's a Sweet spinner! I'm installing a 1987 13b NA into a 1959 Austin as we speak. To the cool box with this turbo.

1987 Mazda RX7 Turbo (Black Sunshine)

Photo of a 1987 Mazda RX7 Turbo (Black Sunshine)

1987 Mazda RX7, 1993 Twin Turbo Motor swapped in.

I purchased this car in July of 2000 from its 1st owner, I am the second owner of it. The first owner paid cash for it in 1987. It has been a garage queen, weekend car for the 13 years he owned it. It had 53K miles on it.

I did some minor mods to it at first, exhaust intake and that was about it. Then I started to Autocross, thats when I went nuts with it and you see the carI have today. Its an always evolving project with a quest for more HP and better handling being the final goal.

I overheated it at a track day in Miami and cooked the engine. It is almost ready to be broken in and retuned with lots of engine upgrades and changes made to make it more powerful and faster. It made 400RWHP with the last engine and we are expecting high 400's this time around. The engine was build with high boost (20PSI) in mind and we plan on only running 15-18PSI this should plant us in the 450RWHP range.

Curb Weight: 2500 lbs.
RWHP: 400
RWTQ: 375

Look for new numbers soon.

I have declared the break in done.

I am boosting at will and just staying clear of redline. I am not taking it over 6K RPM for the next week or 2 and will finish cleaning up the maps to 6K then work on the 6-8K maps. I had to try WOT in second gear again on a warmer afternoon with warm...

Nearing engine break in completion.

I considered tearing up a 2004 Mustang GT this morning that was paying with me. I was sure I could do it short shifting and boosting to 7 lbs. I passed it would have been fun though, this car is such a sleeper, its almost comical when a muscle car steps...

600 miles left!!

Another 200 miles down, and it seems like 19MPG is becoming the norm for the car. I am hoping for more in the 20's when I drive her up to NC in the spring so I can get some range out of her. When the gas light comes on I have 2 gallons left in my 14 gallon...
