Built to pay homage to the late great Steve McQueen and the movie with the greatest car chase scene in movie history. In "Bullitt",Steve McQueen (as LT.Frank Bullitt) chases assasins through the streets of San Fransisco in his Highland Green 1968 Mustang. The crooks are in a 1968 Charger and throughout the chase, which lasts 15 minutes, the Charger loses 8 hubcaps and both cars are airbourne several times. In 2001,Ford decided to build a special version of the Mustang Bullitt and equipe it with many unique performance parts. As well, the Bullitt had many design cues reserved only for this special car that gave it a very menacing look.My Bullitt is Dark Highland Green, just like the movie car and is the only car Ford ever painted this very special color.
4.6 liter fuel injected V8-270 h.p. estimated from the factory.Ford admitted later that it had more horsepower, but didnt want to jeopardize the Cobra sales as Cobras were rated at 305 h.p.The torque is rated at 305,90% of which is available at only 2000 rpm! The Bullitts real advantage is in the handling dept. The car was lowered 3/4 inch from the regular GT,and tokico stuts and special suspension parts were used. The car comes from the factory with huge Brembo brakes and 11 inch discs up front to bring it to a halt.
The Bullitt was produced in 2001 and again in 2008-2009.My car is one of only 500 special Canadian versions. The rest(5082) went to the states.Special equipement on the Canadian cars included a gift pack from Ford with Bullitt movie memorabilia.
Ive changed out the wheels on my Bullitt(kept the originals as well) to FR500 chrome rims.Just to be a little different.
