This is my 1970 1/2 Camaro Z-28. It was originally bought for my father aout 8 years ago. He and I were working on building it together. He realized he couldn't afford it anymore so he sold it to me. I build the motor a 350 but had to use it for another deal. I put a turbo 350 in it with a shift kit and the rearend is a 10 bolt. We found out this car had been piece parted out and whomever had it the many times it was bought and sold all put junkyard or swap meet parts on it. We originally thousght it was a Z-28 clone. Upon many parts purchases and some head scratching we started getting confused as to why parts for a plain Camaro was not fitting I decided to do some research. A guy from our local Camaro club said all Z-28s had Z-28 stamped on the vin tag. Nothing made sense about this car and things still were not adding up. I ended up writing a couple letters to magazines and even the manufacturer themselves to get some kind of confirmation. I received only one letter back andit has said that there were about 200 or so Camaro's that left the factory as Z-28's with mysterious VIN tags. they were just trying to get them out the doors using any and all parts they could and never stamped the Z-28 on the VIN tags or copied down the vin tags going out of the factory. A guy needed the build sheet under the rear seat to actually know what all was there and what the true story of all the options etc... per those particular cars. He said basically I have one of 200 or so Camaro Z-28's that left the factory with mysterious VIN tags an dhe is not sure how many are still out there. That is what makes this Camaro Z-28 a little rare.
