As I was a big Mopar fan when i was young, these cars were the pic for me. I owned and restored this one from 1986 to 1990. Repainted in Canary Yellow Acrylic inside and out. Kept the origanal 318ci V8 for a couple of years with only the heads ported, 4BBL carb and 360ci dual plane intake, steel tube headers. Went great for some time till i put nitrous kit on (150HP powershot)and burnt the rings, no big damage just tired 20year old rings. So in went an overbored 318 (321ci) with new rings bearings and camshaft( Sig Erson TQ30H), new dizzy (Malory twinpoint), and another carb(carter AFB). This is where the fun began. Blew through 3 transmisions till we got it loaded with carbon bands and a good shift kit, fitted a 3000RPM stall speed converter and a 3.55:! LSD diff. Thing felt so light in the rear, you had to be carefull, but could pull a mean burnout right through second gear HAHA. It gave the Ford and GM guys a real fright.
I never really got to stretch it to it's capability over the 1/4mile, but managed to pull it down to 12.86@104MPH with a smallish carter AFB carb (i think it was under 600CFM, probably more like 525). Also on that run in particular the car broke down in every gear all the way down the strip, dont think i could get enough fuel into it. On the street the car looked great, something a lil different, even if i still had it today it would be a little different. You dont see many of these now, and you didnt back then especially ones that were good street performers. Sold the car in the end to buy the Red '69 Javelin.
I bought my Barracuda April 9, 1991 in Rialto, California as a total basketcase, complete with boxes and extra parts in the trunk, from Lloyd Hilton* for $250. I'm the sixth owner. I love this car like a second child and am very proud of what I have accomplished so far. It's my first restoration.
I'm still working on the interior but now have nearly everything to finish it up. My target date is in early June so I can join the Union City-to-Memphis leg of the 2007 Hot Rod Power Tour and debut the car in a proper fashion.
Since it wasn't original when I bought it (the factory 318 was long gone by then), I'm building this street car the way I want it to be: Fast, safe, and very fun to drive.
