my boy ron got it now in nj now SandMan over at Motorpasión liked the Fiat 600 we posted last week, and was reminded of another hot microcar, a 1960 Vespa prostreet rod. This one isn’t in Argentina, though–it’s owned by Ron Mule in Trenton, New Jersey Now, this is not an unknown car–there was a photo in the October 2006 Street Rodder, and it’s the cover car of the Goodguys Goodtimes August 2005 issue (although they’re off on the year…by four years). What’s new is that it’s for sale.Ron offerered it online last month, and it didn’t even make his reserve at $80,000.
I like my "Real" Beetle, Papa Smurph, so I wanted to see if the new one would work as my daily car. Well, it does. I like it and my kids like it. (My husband says he's embarassed to be seen driving it.....) It has peppy performance, handles well, and gets good gas mileage. It can also carry a week's worth of groceries, something Papa could never do!
miles is 600 tat is it
Inline 4 cylinder/5-speed manual transaxle (The engine and transaxle are at the wrong end of the car!)
0-60 - Pretty quick
1/4 mile - Faster than my '69 Beetle!
Top Speed - Faster than I want to go!
Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Power Sunroof, AM/FM/CD (with a 6-disk CD changer in the trunk), Leather Upholstery, Aluminum Wheels
While he hasn’t taken it down the 1/4-mile (and with a 70-inch wheelbase, we don’t really blame him), it does run. Power is via 540 blown bowtie cubes, with a TH400 and 9-inch rearend. Ron says it’s streetable, and has about 600 miles on it. Just exactly what you want when you pull up next to the Metronator at a stoplight
Nothing - I like my car just the way it is.
