The event, which is the largest single day car show in northern New England, will have a different look this year with several new features added to the day’s activities. Each year, the event draws hundreds of show cars and trucks from classic muscle cars, corvettes to customized tuner cars and motorcycles.
“We are very excited about the enhancements we have made to the VIP Show, Shine and Drag this year,” said John Quirk, president of VIP Parts, Tires and Service.
“Car enthusiasts from throughout New England are invited to join us once again for day filled of speed, fun and appreciation of some truly remarkable automobiles. The VIP Show, Shine and Drag continues to be one of the only events in New England to be able to combine a spectacular car show with the excitement of a drag race,” said John Sloan, vice president of Oxford Dragway.
New Show Classes Added
For 2007, several new categories of show classes have been created to better recognize the custom work that owners have done to their vehicles, while also showing appreciation for the work of restoration enthusiasts who prefer to keep their vehicles stock. Each of the registered participants will judge the cars in each category except their own. Additionally, at the end of the day, the spectators will select the overall Best of Show, Best Paint and Best Engine awards. This year, winners in every class will be invited to take spin down the Oxford Dragway after receiving their trophy on Victory Lane.
VIP Parts Tires & Service, the largest independently owned automotive parts, tire, service and accessories retailer in New England, will again be the primary sponsor of the 2007 VIP Show, Shine and Drag.
This year, show participants are encouraged to pre-register their vehicles before the day of the show. Registration forms will be available at the Auburn Mall auto show on April 14-15, by mail and online at www.oxforddragway.com. There will be a private entrance, and gates will open 2 hours earlier for pre-registered vehicles on the day of the show.
In addition to the show cars, a drag competition will be held throughout the day. This year, to help even the playing field, the 32 fastest cars will only race against each other while the more novice racers will only compete against drivers with similar experience. Qualifying for the “Quick 32” will be held at the dragway on Saturday, June 23rd. There will also be Junior Dragsters, boys and girls from 8-16 years old, who regularly race their own dragsters at Oxford Dragway.
Entrance fees for the 2007 VIP Show, Shine and Drag will be $15 to Show, $15 to race and $4 admission for spectators. For more information about the event, please visit www.oxforddragway.com or call Jim & Kathy Hyde, Track Managers, at 207-689-5201.
