About me and my passion for cars
I love the mechanical elegance of cars, it has always appealed to me. My problem is that I hate it when they don't work... yet I enjoy working on them... when its on MY time. Odd, yes. But that's just me.
I don't like autocross, it feels too out of control. I prefer the big-track speed and required discipline and restraint of road-course work.
I love old muscle cars and vintage sports cars. and I love BMWs. Of the modern cars, only BMW and Ferrari/Maserati are really compelling to me for some reason, and even at that many of the newer designs fall deaf on my ears (love the E90 though, and while hiddeously ugly, the Z4 chasis is dynamically awesome).
I'm a classicist in many ways. I don't like power seats, I hate power tops on convertibles, and I love BLACK. I also hate fixing other peoples' mistakes, which is why it becomes less and less likely that I will ever buy another car that has been reasonably modified prior to my ownership. Its just too much hassle. Cars are a very social experience for me. I like wrenching with friends, driving with friends, bench racing, or just hanging out in the garage for no good reason other than there's a beer bottle opener out there.
My first car
1985 Honda Accord: Beige metallic, 5-speed, hatchback, single-barrel carb... what a pile... but it ran... 177K when I sold it (for more than I bought it for 40K earlier!)
Car I wish I still had
2000 Z3 2.3 Roady, Quadruple Black
1992 Acura Integra GS... Also Black
1983 BMW 533i (wish it still ran)... Also Black
My dream car
1993 Ferrari 348tb (Black)
2001 BMW M Coupe... this one I will own someday...or its near equivalent. So funky, so cool.
Car clubs I’m in
BMW Car Club of America (BMWCCA) Missouri Valley Chapter (Sitting Director and Secretary)
