About IvanJatson’s Garage

About me and my passion for cars

I settled for a 1980 rather than a car from the 60s for a few reasons, I knew the car was going to be used as a daily driver, so rather that risk killing a real classic in traffic, or killing myself in a minor crash (1965's safety standards didn't really settle well with my parents), I opted for 3-point seat belts, head rests, power breaks, and better exterior lighting that a 1980 had to offer. The 318 is really a good motor, and I really like the 904 automatic transmission. The car is in A+ shape and had 36,000 original miles on it. It belonged to a very old man who died, then the car was sold to the dealership i got it from. Zero body rust. I drive it to school every day, and it is a real crowd pleaser. But I has to say, that AM radio gets boring after a while...

I always had an interest in older Mopars. I had aspirations to buy a '70-'75 Plymouth Duster when i was in about 6th grade for my first car, which somehow developed into a desire for a '64-'65 Barracuda.

When I found a good looking "65 Barracuda on craigslist.com in Zanesville, Ohio, I had my dad drive me 2 1/2 hours to go look at it. I took some pictures, liked what i saw, and went home to think about it. A week later, I went back to buy it. 3800 dollars cash. When my dad was signing the title, he realized the guy's name wasn't on the title, the car was in his wife's name. A really fishy disgussion with the guy followed, and we concluded the guy was trying to sell the car out from under his ex-wife or something, and had the title voided. I was crushed. But, a few months later, I found a 1980 Plymouth Duster with a 318 V8 on craigslist. The car was in way better shape than the Barracuda, and a bit less expensive. The day I went to see it at a car dealer 30 mins away from my house, I bought it for 3300 dollars.
