By kerryblake

Motor scooters are becoming quite popular as the days go by. More people are finding it convenient to invest in one .This is attributed to a number of factors. First, fuel prices are ever increasing; this is leading people to find cheaper alternatives. Secondly, there is considerable increase in traffic jams hence the need to find a better way to maneuver through the traffic. Thirdly, scooters are more user and environment friendly as they cause less noise or air pollution. Finally, it is the latest trend in town. The following are the types of scooters that may be found in the market.

Powered

The scooter is powered by a petrol or diesel engine. It may come with a two or four stroke engine. Gas powered scooters are among the most powerful and noisiest. Additionally, they also cause more pollution. Due to this, they may not be permitted in certain areas. However, they are quite versatile hence may be used for any kind of work. They can carry large loads, more than one passenger, and can also be operated for long distances.

Electric powered

This version has been experiencing rapid growth. The scooter will run purely on electrical charge. This makes it the most silent. In addition, it is also the easiest to service considering that it has less moving parts. Usually, most will come with average power ranging from about 80cc to 250cc.This makes them suited for light tasks. They also are quite eco-friendly hence adequate in enclosed spaces such as institutions or shopping malls. It may come as a sit down or a stand up type with the sit down being the more powerful of the two variants.

Classic

The classic motor scooter may be said to be the original scooter. It usually comes with a two stoke gasoline powered engine. The power output from the rider will be between 50 cc to 250cc. It is a reliable scooter for day to day use. However, its limited power output makes it a bit slow on speed. Usually, the smallest version will attain a top speed of 30 MPH. The top range models can reach a top speed of about 80 MPH.

Sport

The sport scooter features more refinement that the classic scooter. It comes with a more powerful engine as well as a sleeker design. Normally, the engine capacity ranges from 175cc up to 800cc.This enables the scooter reach high speeds. It can also carry more luggage as well as an extra passenger quite comfortably. It is suitable for performance as well as daily use.

Long gone is the era when scooters were viewed as simple play accessories. They were mostly associated with kids and young adults. However, more mature adults are embracing the idea of riding one to school, work, as well as carrying out grocery shopping. This is being influenced by certain aspects. For instance, the scooters have become more powerful, and also quite fast. They are also quite silent especially the electric type thereby making them quite user-friendly. They are also very fuel efficient with some models returning as high as 100 MPG (miles per gallon). Furthermore, cost of operating a motor scooter is quite low.

If you plan to get one, try to get a test drive before purchasing one, read some reviews or talk with someone who owns a model that you had in mind.
