Happy Birthday, Dale. We salute you! Share your thoughts here.

I know one of the things we all love about cars, being around others who love cars, and watching folks who love cars, driving, racing and things car related is the unbridled passion, the true and non-manufactured passion, for cars and the car - sports.

No one lived that better than Dale Earnhardt, born today, April 29, 1951; Earnhardt held so many honors: from Rookie of The Year in 1979 to Inductee into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006.

Each one of us probably has our memory of Dale; some image from some race, or winner's circle, or interview which helps us understand and remember; that it is heart and soul that drives the best in motortoports; and Dale gave us a lot of heart while he was on this earth.

Whether you are passionate about cars, bikes, boats, or airplanes; we all know Earnhardt and what he did for the love of his sport.

Today is his birthday. Happy Birthday, Dale. And, Thank You.

I first really got into NASCAR in 1979, at 15. Before that, in the "Dark Ages", my only exposure was in ten-minute segments on "Wide World of Sports". Then, CBS, and live coverage of Daytona, and I was hooked! Being a Chevy guy, I looked for someone in a Chevy to root for, and decided I liked the looks of that blue-and-yellow #2 car. Then I found out he was a rookie that I'd never heard of. Oh well, might as well get in on the ground floor. Funny name for a racer, though... I stuck with him all the way, even when he drove "Brand F" for a time. He came back to the fold, and the rest is history. 7 Championships, 76 victories in the premier series and numerous other wins, including setting the total win mark at Daytona that still stands. To me, Dale Earnhardt was the face of NASCAR. The no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners attitude, racing his competition the way he expected them to race him, and of course that boyish smile. He is sorely missed, on and off the track. To me, Dale Earnhardt was, is, and forever will be "THE MAN"! Rest well, my friend. checkeredflag image

Happy Birthday Dale #3

Some hated him and some loved him, but everyone respected him. I didn't start watching Nascar until 1995, after his 7th championship, so I missed all his great racing, I stuck with him through the lean years, just something about him that attracted me to him, I could go on and on, but I guess I'm trying to say, I surely miss the Man and racing will never the same, I hope he is winning up there and laughing at what is going on in racing today.

Happy Birthday Dale!

May we always remember the good times, the wins, the memorable passes, the memory of the black #3 out front or better yet charging through the pack to get there, but also that unforgettable grin. He was one of the last true American heroes who started at the bottom, and through hard work & perseverance, do what many of us do every day, live & enjoy "The American Dream", as well as a love of cars - Thanks for letting us all share the ride with you.
