Scott Kalitta

Filed under: 1977 MG Midget (Bucket)

Scotty left this world today at 330+ MPH winning a race at his home town track
He left this world a legend in funny car racing. He has to many accomplishments in his 46 years with us to list
Ive seen a lot of tough men cry today but racing will continue on tomorrow and somehow with heavy hearts and I'm sure the winner will dedicate the race to scotty and there will be tears of joy for the winner and I am also certain that that is what scott would want.
We all know the risks and we will continue to take them because racing gets into your blood and once your hooked its hard to just stop. Remember scott had retired twice but returned because he loved it so much
My prayers will go out to his family and crew but I will also be watching the races because thats what the race fans should do
it would be our best way to honor scotty
Heavy Hearted

Very sad day in drag racing indeed.
As a fellow drag racer my heart goes out to his entire family. It was hard not to show my tears as well. It does get a guy to thinking that as a sport and even a profession that anything can happen, as it did.
I also want to commend the following race days events by Robert Height and his professionalism and dedication to Scotty. Especially the fans that ALL stood in his honor and his team members that stood on that track next to Robert Height's car embracing each other. To some that was very special.
My prayers go out to all the Kalitta family and crew. Your families gave up so much throughout all the years of drag racing and to now have to give up a family member.
To all drivers and crews of all types of motorsports be safe and pray we never have to lose another fellow racer on our tracks as we have within the last few years. Remember we accept these risks when we strap into these machines.
Rest In Peace Scott. I hope I can still race with you in the drag strip in the sky someday.

Racing is the family business and they will go on. It's time like these when our hearts focus on what's important, our loved ones. I'm praying for his wife, children, father and family.

Racing was in his blood, a legacy from his father. He went out doing what he loved doing, driving a Dragster and winning! Rest well, Scott.
