454

By chevygirl_78

I have recently become aquainted with a guy that has a 67 camaro with a 454 that has been bored over. He is wanting to put a SBC into the car, a big SBC not a 305 or 350. I plan on buying the motor off of him and put it into my car. I am just curious though if a 454 will bolt up to my th350 and the motor mounts and what small changes I might have to make. and how much should I offer for the motor.

You might have to beef-up the suspension on the front of your car as well as im sure the Big Block will weigh alot more. But just remember that you can do anything you set your mind to do.Dont give up and you can do anything. good luck and let me know how it turns out.

A 454 will bolt up to a THM350 no problem, but you'll have to make sure the trans can take the power of a 454 or you'll blow it up. As for the motor mounts, you will have to switch to big block mounts and most likely have relocate the lower mount on the subframe, The '78 might already have predrilled holes for a big block mount, but I'm pretty sure the '87 won't and you might have to modify the subframe on that car. I've seen big block in both bodystyles so it can be done. I would also change the rear out for a 8 1/2 inch 12 bolt rear too. The 10 bolt stock rears aren't too strong, especially in the '87.

Wow I had hoped someone would answer this question. I think it will bolt up but I seem to remember some problems with weight and the oil pan fitting. Not sure it is a plus exchange especially with the 350 trans.
