Automotive Trivia Question of the Day (June 24, 2010)

By JerryandMary

He is referred to as the Father of the Mustang. He was later fired from Ford and was hired by the Chrysler Corporation.
A. John Delorean
B. Roger Smith
C. Lee Iacocca
D. Robert Lutz

Good luck,
Jerry

PS One of the people we need to do the Cool Ride of the Week is out of town. I cannot do the programming part so it will have to wait until next week. I honestly hate skipping a week but nothing I can do just now.

Jerry

That would be C: Allentown, PA native Lido A. Iacocca. The son of Italian immigrant parents, he changed his first name and the pronounciation of his last name (now eye-a- KO-ka) from it's original Italian pronounciation (ya-KO-ka), to make him more palatable to the higher-ups at FoMoCo who, in the tradition of founder Henry Ford, had a dislike and mistrust of anything smacking of overt ethnicity. In the long run it didn't help him any - a falling out with Hank The Deuce (Henry Ford II) led to his firing in the early 1970's.

(A little further trivia: The Corvair Monza was Iacocca's inspiration for the Mustang. You know those fake air scoops almost all Mustangs have had between the door and the rear wheel arch - even today's "All-New" 2010 models? They were functional on the first Mustang prototypes, which had an air-cooled engine out back ala Corvair!)
