Flashback 1971: Barry Newman & 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Vanishing Point
Apr 16, 2010 | Views: 851
"Vanishing Point" is an almost perfect artifact of its time. The story is heavy on weird coincidences, self-indulgent spirituality and the significance of insignificant events. But those were all defining elements of the early 1970s. Fortunately, so were big-engine musclecars. No one remembers the silly existential mysticism of "Vanishing Point," but the white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T that dominates the movie is unforgettable.

- With all the interest in this movie among gearheads (it seems to keep coming up in conversations and on the Internet over and over again) I wonder why it has never been released in DVD format for sale.

- If you ever get down this way, you have to visit Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville, TN. He has some incredible, incredible muscle cars. And, low and behold, tucked back in the corner is the actual and unrestored Challenger from Vanishing Point, as is from when it left the movie set! It is too cool!!!
