- Boss 302- Trans Am racing King. For the years 1969-1970 won more Trans AM races than any other model. This car was so dominant that Chrysler bought one from a local detroit ford dealer for research and development purposes.
Boss-351- 1971 Boss 351 Cleveland motor is the most powerful Small block factory produced engine from the muscle car days.
Hot Rod magazine [ never ford friendly ] dyno tested the Boss 351 against GM's best from the same era [ 350ci ] and the Boss won hands down @ 396hp untouched factory.
Boss 429- Could have been the giant killer if Ford was more into street performance and less about getting the car approved by Nascar. The car was built for Nascar homologation- build a car with the Boss 429 motor [ at least 500 ] for the streets and the Boss 429 motor is good for Nascar racing. The motor won more races than the Hemi [ for the years used 69-71 ] in Nascar racing.
On the streets was a different story unfortunately . The car was so de-tuned by Ford who was afraid of possible warranty issues and possible legal problems [ too much for the street ] that the car never lived up to it's potential. The factory carb was a holley 735cfm and the Boss 302 came with a factory holley 780cfm. The cam was also too small for such a motor and the exhaust system was very restrictive for Ford's big block hemi. Even detuned the car is capable of mid 13 second runs. Switching out the carb, cam, and exhaust alone and you have a 12 second screamer. The Boss 429 is finally getting it's due recognition while commanding big bucks at places like B&J car auctions.
