Question of the Day: What's your favorite form of motorsport?

By motortopia

Man was racing long before motorized vehicles came along. And once they were invented, I'm sure it wasn't long before somebody raced them.

Today, there are hundreds of different types of motorsport: NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA Drag Racing, World Rally Championship, AMA Superbike, Motocross, Power Boat Racing, Air Racing... even Lawn Mower Racing!

I love lots of different forms of motorsport, but I only religiously follow Formula 1 and the American LeMans Series. The engineer side of me loves the technology in these series, I much prefer road courses to ovals, the performance of F1 cars and the ALMS prototypes are absolutely mind-boggling, and the sounds these cars make are just heavenly.

Although, that lawn mower racing looks pretty darn cool...

So what about you? What is your favorite form of motorsport, and why? Let us know in the comments!

Outlaw drag racing because its more like the older days of drag racing The nhra is too controlling for me plus I hate bracket racing because of all the electronics that control the car I think the driver and crew chief should have to tune and drive the cars
Outlaw is more grassroots and a whole more fun to drive or watch

It's a toss up between NHRA and Indycar. I love watching Rally on the tube.

Formula1 is my main interest, but I like ALMS, some NASCAR races, Sedan races, Rallying, (Paris to Dakkar, winter rallying too) Tractor Pulling, if you want to consider that "racing". Have only seen 1 lawnmower race at a local Fair, It was fun to watch but a little dusty!

Well first off I will be first to say NASCAR, as far back as I can remember and I'm 51 now.. But for the last 20 yrs, I have been building and racing RC type Nascar cars on huge circuit tracks up and down the East Coast.. Once a year in Feb, which is called the "Snowbirds Nationals" folks from all over the world come to Orlando Florida to race 1/10 and 1/12 scale RC cars. Sponsor and weekend warriors alike.. If you are to get notice, here is where to be.. Check out the link below for further info: http://www.sn...ationals.com/

Hmmm... Trick question, if you ask me. You see, I like watching NASCAR (live and on TV), but participating in Autocross with my Corvair! Realistically, there's no way I'll ever get a NASCAR ride: I don't even have as much talent as Kyle Busch, and his talent is questionable at best! (I could probably crash as many guys as he does, but even that would take practice...) There's something about throwing a car around a parking lot WAY too fast, knowing there's no way I'm going to bend it up: If I mess up, the only thing that gets hurt is my ego (and maybe a cone or two biggrin image ).

F1 and IRL are always a treat. Drag racing has always been a fun spectator sport too. But not the top fuel stuff, more like the street car stuff. It's great to see someone pull off a win, and then drive home!

There all great, although I do have a preference for Drag Racing.
There is something about the 1/4 mile drags that really peeks my interest. When the lights say the wheels are on the starting line, my heart still starts pumping and that is just watching them on TV.

I like the fact that the gratification is almost instant, you know in a heart beat how good your start was and in a couple more seconds the race is over. One small error and you have lost, but when you win...

That is my favorite kind of motor sport.

NHRA is my favorite. I was at the race track every weekend when I was a kid with my family. Over the weekend I attended my first NHRA event. That was an awesome experience that I hope to relive many times over.
