Tinted Windows--should I?

By camarogirl96

I've always thought tinted windows weren't for me until I was driving side-by-side with another new black Camaro with black rims and tinted windows. That's when I decided I wanted to tint the windows on my Camaro.

Here's my dilemma: I've been pulled over three times in within the first 3 weeks of having the car. Once because a police officer "couldn't read my license plate" and once because nothing came up when the police officer ran my plate. Both times, I wasn't doing anything wrong and the police officers were awfully chatty about the car. To make a long story short, I've been getting some unwanted attention with the car. (I deserved to get pulled over for the third time!)

Tinting the windows is illegal in Michigan. My police officer friends say most police officers won't pull me over for it unless they're bored & that they wouldn't give me a ticket for it. Should I still do it?

Ive gotten the same thing. Best I can tell you is be friendly and respectful. After enough of them pull you over, they'll all know who you are and leave you alone, unless they just want to talk to a cute girl driving a sports car!

I re thought the pin stripe maybe just a grey one so it doesn`t jump out and over power the black. Dang I want that car, lol.

Any tint is better then none, even if it is 30%...Up in TC MI where I'm from "originally ". They didn't really bother us with over tinted vehicles unless your in a higher crime area Or driving a 88 Delta with a Bud light Stickers on 32's bumpin it out. Cops just tend to look for a reason to pull someone over, as most drug busts/suspensions/no insurance is all from a burned out license plate bulb or not signaling a turn. So all in all, If you have nothing to hide go for the tint. And if you do its just a reason for them to look further. Your call, but I would tint it out with the black on black wheels. It would look sharp!

I found that tinting them makes it hard to see things in the mirror when backing up,I had thr rear and side windows tinted and didn`t like it but I bought it that way. Then I got a ticket for too much tint on the windshield,it was 10in and they allowed only 6in.So I guess it`s up to you .I might vote for a colored pin strip down the side, anice blue or bright red,it doesn`t look good then just take it off it`s only tape.

what i did was that i tinted all of the windows at 35% which is not very dark but since theyre all tinted less light gets in and they look darker than they really are this way you can still drive just fine at night and your ride looks good

My view is kinda self centered. I think it would be a crime to hide such a pretty girl! I could care less about the rest of the reasons! Don't do it!!

Don't do it......you're just going to attract more unwanted attention! (PS.....Welcome to Motortopia!!)

Nah not worth the hassle. Keep a low profile, that's my 2 cents.

Im an ex- cop and look at it from their side , Alot of great officers have been killed on traffic stops because they couldnt see inside the car where a person was holding a gun on them . They didnt have a chance .Best to go by laws of state according to tint , some allow more than most .

Jerry and Mary,
Your post made me smile; thanks! If I wasn't already a very dedicated speech therapist, I would certainly consider the perks of law enforcement! Thanks!
