About “Mustang Valdez”
I got this car because it was sporty looking, it was bright red, and it was CHEAP! When I bought this car, I was impressed by how rare it was... Then I found out WHY it was so rare! This car looked like it was in good shape, but that's only because it had an okay repaint over some real nasty rust repair. The interior was in good condition, but I could never get comfortable in that seat. It had no support any place it was needed. Then there's the little matter of performance - or what passed for performance. Some people swear by the Ford 2,3 Turbo, but I just swore AT mine! It leaked/burned oil at about a quart every 350 miles. At least there weren't many mosquitoes in the area after I drove past!
I wanted ones of these when they where new, but there was no way i could afford the car payment and the California insurance. I found this car on Craig's list in a very rural area in central Illinios. It was listed 302 not a 5.0 and bad pictures.Tthe add was like a month old. My brother-in-law just happen to be in the mid-west from Tuscon. He asked me if i'd would like to go to Macomb with him. That trip would take us right through the small town of Astoria less 1200 people. We drove up to the address the lady gave me and she was waiting next to this beat red Mustang 4 banger. I am like is this the car and the lady was oh no the convertible is in the garage in the back. I always like to be prepared and I picked up there asking price in cash. The lady took me back to the garage. Her husband rolled up the door. I was drewling. The car is so original. It still has the factory paper tags on the under carriage. It check out on car fax as being 58 thousand original miles. My brothere-in-law took my a side and said I'll buy if you don't. I replied no I want it. The owner and I quickley struck a deal which included letting drive it home on his plates.
By the looks of my challenges this car isn't very popular. I've lost 7 out of 10. However I really like the car. It's a 20 year old survior that looks like new car. The 5.0 hasn't been winter driven for that fact I doubt it even been driven in rain.
Specs for “Mustang Valdez”
It did 0-60 in an honest 11 seconds, and the quarter mile in roughly 18. I never had the courage to check out it's top speed, because it shook like a wet dog at anything over about 90.
