great looking ride man! I had forgotten how good these formulas looked in factory trim! Most have been chopped up or turned into a Trans Am or some heavily modified dragster! This looks great! Thanks for sharing with us!

1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula (HOTRED)

Trophies: 4 Give a trophy Last updated Apr 30, 2011

Photo of a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula (HOTRED)

About

owned by Jane Ann Weir initially,,listed at 7994 @ Georgian Pontiac in Barrie Ontario, inside their showroom, beside a red Trans Am. She traded it for a Corvette, later in 1977,and I bought it from Bruce Dangerfiield Chev,Olds

Specs

It is a Formula with a Pontiac 400 (6.6 ) Automatic

Factory Options

it had a 400ci engine, 350 trans,2:41 rear gears,black velour interior, rear window defrost,ps,pb,pw, am/fm radio,8 track in the console,ttinted glass,white letter G70x15 Uniroyal tires,chrome exhaust tips,guage pkg,space saver sparetire

Mods

the 400 engines had oiling problems,& mine spun a bearing at 3000 rpm. GM refused to admit that they have a problem, so I found a 455 (yc) that had been rebuilt, and did an engine swap at 22,000 miles. Many years later,I read an article in Hotrod magazine that suggested, if wanted, a 455 would make over 500 hp,if a few parts were added. They said to use Edelbrock heads, intake, carb, more radical hyd cam & headers,,so I did that including a copy of the Ram air IV cam from Crane,Harland Sharp roller rockers,Hedman headers and an 800 cfm edelbrock carb,Edelbrock rocker covers and air filter were added for appearance, and I also added a Moroso 7 qt pan with their oil pump pick up
