1978 Chevrolet Monza (Experiment #1)
Last updated Dec 10, 2011
My friends Mike and Candie had this car when I met them. Man was it beat up looking and rough running. I stiil had my Chevelle and just got my beater Impala then, so I was the main source of their transportation. When my Chevelle got totalled by a drunk driver and the trans went out in my Impala, I was driving my Mom's '78 Nova and didn't have my Nova done yet. I wanted a fast car I could built cheap. Mike and Candie decided to junk their Monza. I gave them junk-yard price for it. $35 at that time. I took the engine and trans from my totalled Chevelle and ordered factory motor-mounts from the Chevy dealer I worked at. Put all new brakes on it, new tires, had a radiator built for it, threw it all together and voila! IT LIVES! I don't know much about it before I got it, but it had a rough life with me! it didn't die easy! I was on a high speed midnight run when I didn't see (maybe it was stolen, or I was plain just going too fast) the Rail-Road Xing sign and hit the brakes until I was already on the tracks and going air-bourne. It came down heavy on the nose and bent everything from the doors forward up and ripped the oil-pan wide open! My Dad towed it home. I stripped it and junked the body.

Oh yeah, the air cleaner wouldn't fit under the hood, so I cut a hole for it, which presented another problem, exposed air filter. So I cut the front part of a Ford Granada hood and made a hood scoop for it. Totally ugly. Exactly what I was hoping for!
