1979 Pontiac Trans Am (Bruiser)
Last updated Apr 18, 2007
Smokey and the Bandit was filmed in my hometown of Jonesboro, GA. I remember at age 6 watching the film crew shooting footage of the Trans Am rolling off the semi in its introduction scene for the movie, and also the infamous bridge jump stunt over the Flint River. From that point on, my most coveted Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars were Firebirds. No other car has ever had so much personality and bad-ass styling.
I absolutely love to see people light up when they see the car and want to talk about the days when they owned a T/A, or had always dreamed of driving one. Last summer in Santa Cruz, the car was parked at the beach, and a mother with her her young daughter stopped to look at the hood bird decal. She looked up at her mother and said: "Mommy, this car looks like trouble".
