2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD (Work Horse)
Last updated May 18, 2009
In late 2003 I was considering replacing my aging Z-71 pickup. I hadn't found anything when my brother mentioned a new trade in that was coming into our favorite dealership. It was an '01 2500HD with a Dura-max and Allison. It was just what I was looking for. The hook was that the previous owner had the truck painted yellow. Bright, eye popping, mind numbing, stop you in your tracks yellow. I had made comments in the past how the right shade of yellow made a nice color for a truck. I was offered first refusal when the truck came in. I wanted to see waht shade of yellow it was. When I first saw it I was sold. It had just the right amount of black trim and chrome to break up the 'take your breath away' yellow. The truck never fails to draw some sort of comment. Most are favorable, some are humorous, a few less than complimentary. No matter what anyone says, I no longer 'lose' my truck in the parking lot.
The truck has the 6.6 DuraMax Diesel with the Allison transmission. It's a great pairing. It's a 3/4 ton model with the extended cab and six foot bed.
The truck is not loaded, but it is nicely equiped. In addition to the cruise, air and tilt wheel, it has electric seats, windows and locks. Besides the factory extras, it came with; mud flaps, tonnau cover, window visors, bug shield and bed mat. I added a big red Monte Carlo bowtie in the middle of the tailgate.
The biggest thing I have added is a set of chrome steps to make it easier to get in and out of.
