2003 Honda Civic LX (Gas saver)
Last updated Jan 30, 2015
Well since the Mustang is finally reaching into its 100,000's we wanted to retire it from daily driving, especially since its a show car. So the hunt was on for a reliable daily driver that got good gas mileage...
Well finally we settled on a Honda, since they had awesome reputations. We wanted a 1998-2002 Accord 2 door coupe. I have alwayed loved the tailights and they woulkd be more roomy than the Stang. I was told the Autos in both the 4 and 6 cylinder cars were bad news. They have earned themselves a rep for failing after both rebuilds and replacements. So Manual it was. Well the more we looked we only found Automatic high mileage cars. Plus the mileage would not be much better then the Stang.
So it was on to the second choice.... 2001-2005 Civic coupe. Again in a manual. Well it turned out they have nearly identical cabin space as the Accord. Well finally we were seeing lower miles. thought it seems those in the price range we had were VERY ragged out when the mileage was low.
Well then we found one on day. 37,700 miles, 03, coupe, spoiler, silver, and not a total mess. All this and under $6000.00. We went back in forth over it and another car. We diceided on it as the other was at a dealer who wanted to much for the condition and it had more miles. Then we could not find the listing for the 03... luckly (as if fate had a hand) my mother had printed the listing when we found the car a week ago. Well we called that morning and went to see the car that night. The guy gave us a new number to his shop. When we got to go see the car the guy told us he had just moved his shop and the number we had had just been cut off. (fate again)...
The only drawback was that it was a rebuilt title. Well the story goes the car was wrecked and sold at auction. This guy is a state certified rebuilder. The car was repaired and taken to be state inspected before the paint and filler was laid on. It passed as if it was a car in factory condition. Then it gets its new title. Then it gets the body work to finish the repair. We have family that used to do inspection on these vehicles and said if they pass they are as good as any other car. At least they gat an inspection unlike other used cars.
So we got the car. Now it was time to insure it. Ok this was the Kicker. We had Esurance. In GEORGIA they do not insure rebuilt titled cars. We were so upset. Then I though OK all the pieces had pionted in the right direction to this point. We called Progressive. Not only would they insure it, but the rate to add this car to the corral of other actually brought our insureance DOWN $50.00 a month. Add another car and pay less then we had been paying. (WOW go Fate!)
So we got the car just in time for the Mustang to World of Wheels show. Oddly as I detailed the car out for the show I discovered a potentail dangerous situation with one of the Stangs tires. Driving on it much more to and from work could have been disaterous, not to metion the bushings in the A-Arms have begun to fall apart. (Fate, you got our back!)
So we are happy to bring the little Civic into the family!
