About
I don't know if this qualifies for MOTORTOPIA, or not, but HERE GOES !
I just happen to be a person with a 17-yr-old mind in a 65-yr-old (come this Thursday) body. Now this is a VERY dangerous situation. The reason is: No one, including myself, ever knows just what I will come up with - and it is usually fast and dangerous.
I purchased a wrecked Kawasaki motorcycle with a 500cc, 60HP engine some time back. I knew that if I put it back together, I would be out riding, much to my wife's disfavor, as I used to ride a 1965 BMW R69S with a Stibe sidecar (since sold).
Well, I decided to fabricate a go-kart (or maybe it's a dune buggy), and install this engine on it. I've wanted to do something like this for some time and this was my opportunity.
I started out with the engine, a whole bunch of 1" square tube, a Toro golf course lawn mower rear end, an old 4-wheeler for donating the front end, a Dodge van seat, some old John Deere cultivator iron and, who knows, what else and set out to make a wild machine. I purchased a great number of items at the local speed shop and and a couple hardware stores and went to work. The results were astounding! This machine can cross a corn field at 60 MPH (motorcycle spring-over-shocks), make enough noise to shatter windows and cause me to have more fun than should be allowed!
I added racing safety netting, 4pt harness and later a fuel cell, just in case it didn't handle as well as I thought I had designed it.
As it turns out, it will slide turns and not even feel a little bit out of control. I have had it up to 85MPH, with 5th and 6th gear yet to go on a gravel road and on a .6 mile track I have around my acreage. I really don't want to take it any faster, because the 4-wheeler steering is so tight that even a slight movement at any more speed could be devastating.
It doesn't really have a name, but the beginning information requires something. If anyone has an idea, I'm open to suggestions. Also, if this doesn't qualify for this website, you won't hurt my feelings if it is banned.
Specs
All the specs I know are stated in the narrative. I wish I could give you the top speed, but I enjoy looking at the green side of grass instead of the roots!!!
