1971 Chevrolet El Camino Custom (Black Demon)
Last updated May 4, 2012
Second owner - bought in 1976. Pulled the old small block and three speed. Put in a 250 cube six (highly modefied!) and a BW Super T-10 4 speed. Many years of thrashing that combo plus a second engine rebuild got to me. Too much time under the hood and not enough drive time. Had to go to something easy on parts. Small block - torquer engine and trans sounded good - like all my buddies had. So that is done, now I need to finish the wiring and get it running!
Small Block 400 w/Edelbrock Performer parts - heads, cam, carb, etc.
TH 375 trans - a TH 400 with a TH 350 tailshaft.
370:1 rear end
So now the El Camino has a 400 small block and a TH 375 - out of a '78 Chevy station wagon.
It is still up on blocks awaiting the finish of a total make-over. 80% done. The only things not replaced are the sheet metal, a-arms, chassis and rear end housing. All else is new. I will never do this again. To much for this old body of mine.
