2011 Audi TT review

By mikehussey

Few things command respect as an Audi car and very few cars in history would go down and scream that my design language is original. Moreover, with the few cars around here, there is very much a chance that the TT would indeed be a part of all the brouhaha over their design language. Infact, every iteration of the Audi TT has been a revelation in itself. Over the years, the Audi TT diversified into various other branches such as a convertible form and the original coupe form. The earlier Audi TT was a wonderful car and the new 2011 Audi TT bows down to the rigors of the new age Audi styling with a front end which has been hopped up a bit. Now, the Audi doesn’t get styling updates too often, plus there is a new style mantra going on in Audi. We got a 2011 Audi TT for a review with us, though, it was there only for 2 days, but still each and every road tester out here could manage to envisage a glimpse of what the TT has to offer with respect to real life practicality and also fun at the same time.

Sachin’s Red Ferrari Now Owned by Surat Businessman

By mikehussey

Sachin’s 360 Modena Ferrari is now the property of Raj Hans Group Chairman, Jayesh Desai. Desai claims to have bought the car from Sachin himself two weeks ago, with all the legal documents.

This is reportedly the same Ferrari that was presented to Sachin by Michael Schumacher as a gift from FIAT. The same Ferrari was earlier embroiled in controversy, as Tendulkar refused to pay an INR 1.13 crore or approx. $245,000 import duty on the car priced at INR 75 lakh or $162,600, even though it was not a price but a gift.

Eventually in 2003, the government agreed to exempt Tendulkar against paying the import duty that was $82,400 more than the price of the car itself. Now it looks like the car has been sold by Tendulkar to Desai.

Desai said that he had always wanted to have a Ferrari, and this has been a dream come true for him. He is also reported to have requested the media to question him only regarding the car and not about Sachin, when he was asked if he had known the cricketing legend or was friends with him.

So far there is no confirmation from Sachin’s camp refuting this story. Tendulkar is currently on a holiday with his family in England as he is enjoying a break following the IPL tournament.

SUVs and the green brigade – the war goes on

By mikehussey

Americans have been always counted to be doing the right thing. However this thing comes into picture once they have exhausted all their possibilities. The ally across the pond was duly noted by one Mr. Winston Churchill. Judging by the growing US aversion of 4x4s and SUVs as also the number of anti SUV songs on the web, he had a point to make.

Well, the SUVwas actually born in US. It was actually a term used to describe the fancied up rudimentary 4x4s. It seems now that the sun is finally setting down on these monsters. As of now, the buzz in the auto industry says that the maximum the gas price goes, the minimum the vehicle size becomes. At $4 plus for a gallon in America, SUVs are gasping for gas. Only the thought of shelling out $100 for a tankful must be forcing many Yankees to leave their yadda doodles on the highway. Check with the trends catching up where Jeep Cherokees have abandoned their Grand moniker, the Hummer is an old patch on the SUV or rather automobile landscape and the Ford Excursions costing an arm and more than a leg. Some two decades ago, the SUV craze caught up with Americans. The growth in the suburban housing market and depressed oil prices wherein gas cost as low as $1 per gallon in the late 90s. This led Americans to swap their bigger than life sedans for even bigger SUVs. Some of the fashion decked SUVs were the Passports, Rodeos, Excursions and Mountaineers. Some like the Hummers, Cruisers, Wranglers and also the Blazers joined them. Nissan which was also setting its foot into the American territory got its SUV, the Rogue and pressed it into duty in America. Beautiful was thrown out of the window and ugliness came to be accepted. Popular SUV bumper stickers read as “The roads are all mine”, “If no road exists, then I make my own”. Too big to fail” and also “My bigger would crash your Prius and eat it for lunch”. Many provocative or deterring stickers like “Bin Laden is using your gas money “ had little or nil impact on the SUV buyers. Well Mr Laden himself was forgotten for quite some days until recently.

n the mid-to-late decade with the heat generated by global warming debates, rising oil prices and the all too important growing environmental consciousness, the craze and madness for SUV subsidized . Moreover, in the summer of 2008, when gas prices hit the $4 mark, the eco brigade from America were all the more happy that finally Americans have come to their senses. However luck eluded the eco-brigade as gas prices were halved to below the $2 mark and Americans were revving up the SUV alley again. The Anti-SUV sticker, “Do you really need a SUV to carry your mobile phone” was replaced by the “My truck, My rules”.

Hybrid Ram Plug-In for Pickups from Chrysler for a demonstrational project

By mikehussey

Chrysler has come up with a hybrid Ram plug in which is used for pickups. The serious note here is that these trucks designed by Chrysler are not for sale and will not be available with any dealer anywhere in the world in the near future.

The Hybrid rams were actually designed as part of a study which is quoted to be a demonstration project that is to evaluate the hybrid systems on the fields surrounded by the worst possible conditions. The first ten of the hybrid rams are shipped to the city of Yuma in Arizona and the hybrid Rams that are to be produce in the near future will be sent to the cities of Massachusetts, Missouri, Texas, Hawaii, North Dakota, and California.

As part of the plan by Chrysler and the U.S. Department of Energy, as many 140 hybrid Rams are to be installed at the fields as for collecting data on the performance of the charge of the batteries, battery thermal management, hybrid performance and fuel economy rating under extreme conditions.

The trucks from Chrysler are expected to travel about 6.5 million miles in the three years to come in conditions that include extreme hot and cold climates at different parts of the country.
