This type of unit does not require oil from the pan, it requires that oil be added to the main unit and then it must be changed every other oil change. We unscrewed the fill plug and emptied the contents into the unit. This has a small drag plug at the bottom of the unit that is used to drain the oil.

Now we brought the main unit over to the car and installed it behind the radiator fan, this is a very close fit, but the unit will slip on if aligned properly. You must not force it.
