As many of you already know, and just in case you don’t, the Rio Grande Valley, aka the RGV, is legendary for harboring some of the wildest custom builds on the planet. The reason is simple: the folks down here truly eat, sleep, and breathe truck culture. Standing right at the epicenter of this movement is Bob Garza of Alamo, Texas, an undisputed OG builder in the scene. To give you a quick backstory, Bob is a revered name in the lowrider community, famously known for crafting two iconic rides dubbed “RM SERIES” and “Double Trouble.” But he didn’t stop there; over the years, Bob has turned out a massive variety of custom rides for his clients, each bearing his signature, high-end touch.

When it came time to tackle this trio of original 1990 Chevy 454 SS sport trucks, Bob decided that building just one wasn’t enough. He wanted the complete set, tracking down all three factory colors GM offered for that model year: Onyx Black, Flame Red, and Summit White.

Pop the hoods, and you’ll find a refreshing take on muscle. While the modern trend leans heavily toward LS and LT swaps for reliability and modern power, Bob chose to respect the OBS heritage. Keeping the factory 454 ci big-block V8s intact is exactly what makes these sport trucks so special. However, he did inject a serious dose of modern adrenaline by installing ProCharger D-1X supercharger systems. Managed by Holley Terminator X EFI setups, these powerplants perfectly bridge the gap between old-school muscle and new-school tech.

Step inside, and the craftsmanship continues. Each truck features a full custom leather interior courtesy of Julio’s Upholstery out of Edinburg, Texas. While they all maintain a cohesive, high-end theme, Julio gave each cab its own distinct character to match the exterior flavor. Amazingly, despite the meticulous attention to detail, all three trucks were built concurrently in under six months.
“Down here in the 956, when I want something done, I make it happen!”

With that much big-block power on tap, any seasoned builder knows you need a chassis capable of handling the horsepower. Bob equipped all three trucks with full QA1 coilover suspension conversion kits, ensuring they sit right and handle like they’re on rails. Tucked behind the rollers is a massive Wilwood big brake system, delivering the serious stopping power required for these heavy hitters.

Of course, you can’t dial in the suspension and performance without the perfect set of shoes to match the attitude. Bob bolted up a set of Billet Specialties Redline Series wheels, opting for a sleek 22×9-inch fitment up front and a massive, deep-dish 24×15-inch setup in the rear. The aggressive stance flawlessly captures the modern sport truck aesthetic while honoring the 454’s legendary heritage.

Finally, we all know that paint can make or break a high-profile build. Rolando Leal at King of Kings Garage in Edinburg, Texas, stepped into the booth and worked absolute magic on all three trucks. Laying down flawless finishes on three vehicles in such a tight window is nothing short of incredible, but that’s just how they roll in the 956.

Pulling off monumental simultaneous builds like this requires an elite team, and these three Chevy trucks are living proof of what can be achieved when everyone is firing on all cylinders. Ultimately, Bob built this iconic trio for his sons, the next generation who will carry the torch. Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want the keys to a blown 454 SS as a young man? This trifecta is definitive proof that the Garza family isn’t playing around, solidifying their status as true, OG trendsetters of South Texas.
