A REVISIT TO HAVASU DEUCES SHOW

Kevin Whipps February 20, 2023 All Feature Vehicles

Fun in the Sun at Havasu Deuces Show

Lake Havasu City is a fascinating place. Located in Northern Arizona, just two-and-a-half hours or so from Las Vegas, it’s still deep in the desert, but kept alive by the body of water that gives it a name.

Almost every car, truck, or SUV you see has a rack on the roof for a canoe, paddle board, or wake board, and many of them have a hitch on the back to pull their jet ski. It’s made the city into a home for hundreds of retirees, as well as the adventurous city dwellers from nearby Phoenix who want to experience waters ports. And it’s also the home for the Havasu Deuces Show.

Built around a three-day schedule, the event is made to bring people with their pre-1957 rides (particularly 1932 Fords, naturally) out to the city. On Thursday, there’s Deuce Night on Main Street right in town. The second day, the Friday, there’s a Garage Tour that takes attendees throughout many of the custom car and truck shops around the area, where the owners have opened their doors to all comers.

But the big part of the show, and the grand finale of it all, is the Havasu Deuce Show, held on the Saturday at Rotary Park, right off the shores of Lake Havasu itself.

It was a perfect day: slightly overcast with temps in the 60s and 70s. As the cars rolled in around 8am, the showgrounds started to fill with lots and lots of ’32 Fords. Because the cars and trucks were lined up in rows of two, situated back to back, it created some easy ways for people to get around.

Car owners, who always like to hang out in lawn chairs nearby, could sit in the alley formed between the rows of cars, while the wide lanes handled show attendees with lots of room to spare.

People came from all over — license plates from nearby Colorado and far away Oregon could be found — making a good mix of people in attendance. While the oldies played, friends talked and hung out, catching up on the good ‘ol days and showing off their rides. It was good times for sure.

It was a perfect day…
