i found this boat in cleveland about 6 years ago. it had a bone stock 454, polished glenwood logs, over-the-transom pipes with super traps. the berkely jet drive was bone stock and the interior was in pretty good shape. the clear coat was cloudy but otherwise a pretty good paint job. trailer was o.k.(still has the ugly gold wheels on it!).
well it didn't take long for the bolt-ons to come out....my other boat, (OBNOXIOUS) was torn down and in the midst of a heart transplant. so,many go fast parts were just sittin' there( i think i still have about 10 grand in parts sitting in the garage!!!)
first off came the logs and a set of bassett wet headers, then a place diverter....then intake...another intake and another intake...multiple carbs...
then winter came.. OBNOXIOUS was put back together and i still had the 'bug'....
i found a used 468 roller bowtie block that came outta a mud bogger...this thing had all kinds of goodies on it... edlebrock intake, GMPP aluminum heads...eagle rolling stock... a reall beast with 12-1 compression. bought a set of custom rewarder 'twisty' headers.
well, she went in....and came back out after the first start up...
oil in the water! one of the damn aluminum heads had pin holes in it.... so...bought a new aluminum head(cha-ching) i also had the boat re-cleared and the finish looks pretty good...boat ran well for the better part of the year... then it happened AGAIN...more oil in the water....THE OTHER head went bad...(seeing a pattern?) this time, the engine was torn completely down...changed the pistons(wanted to run on pump gas) installed the new head...had the jet drive sent to Don's Pump Service in Columbus and had it built to handle 1000hp.
well...last year, was the FIRST year with no major problems... (had the seat frames rebuilt and added new carpet) didn't use the boat much...so it's still in 'break in' mode....
i'll keep ya posted on it
Well... the MONEY PIT has lived up to its name AGAIN.
The beginning of the summer...just like a lil kid thats restless, threw a few tantrums...linkage stuck...hit the trailer at 1/2 throttle!...Key breaks off in ignition...(thank God for screwdrivers!) When we think everything is O.K....we snap the driveshaft! SOOOOOOO....since we're getting a custom square shaft built, what the hell...we may as well replace the drive unit.
Heres the new goodies:
Dominator 12-S Jet Drive
Dominator Intake w/Shoe and ride plate
Stainless A/B Impeller
The boat ran 81 on GPS before...we're hoping to break 90 next year. I'll keep ya posted
