This car was home built by my husband (Insanity Motorsports) for me partially to keep me out of his way in the "spousal avoidance center" (garage/shop/buddies - honey, why don't you go drive your car? LOL!) and partially to help keep my mind off my multiple sclerosis. Nothing like hearing the rumble of the motor and whine of the blower while driving on a nice sunny day to lift my spirits! He fabricated, painted or changed everything except the cage and tubbing - had a friend do that. We bought this car stock and tore it down to almost nothing to add the 4-link, narrowed rear-end, smooth firewall, new floor, fabricated dash, stretched quarters and cage.
Shown several times in both indoor and outdoor shows and has had over 30 wins in two years including 4 best of shows. Our biggest win was at the Seattle Roadster show where we won Manager's Choice for the whole show!
We then decided to run it down the track to see how fast it would go. It's built heavy for street and doesn't have much in the way of spendy speed parts (cast iron crank!) but still managed to make mid 10's consistently. Not bad for a heavy car and a small block we thought.
Our latest accomplishment was getting on Pinks All Out and actually making it in the All Out 32 so we made it on tv! We were hoping they would just do a quick view of it in the pits but ended up with two full passes on tv as well as 3 quick blips of our front fender and blower on the line before each commercial in the first 15 minutes of coverage. Wow! Didn't expect that out of my little street car!
My husband has his own car ('41 Willy's) - this one is my baby so I drive it to work and shows as well as just cruise it around for fun.
I was lucky enough to be in 6 magazines so far - Drive NW, Camaro World, Camaro Performers, Hot Rod, Street Thunder and Chevy High Performance and we just won the 2009 Texaco Car of the Decades 60's division.
For 2010 I'm hoping to somehow come up with the money to repaint it (rock chips from driving it as well as a little twist from racing it). Then it's back to the shows and cruising for fun!
Don't forget to check out the short burnout video!
