In 1973 the Type LT replaced the SS option and added many new options to the Camaro line, such as factory A/C for the first time and power windows for the first time in the second gen production line. I've owned this for a few years and done some myself, with friends and paid for the rest. I try to maintain a stock look, and do a few shows from time to time. In the coming summer I will run it down the track a time or two and get my 0-60, and 1/4 mile times.
If you can provide documentation on how many LT Z28 RS optioned Camaros were produced in '73 I would like to hear from you.
This is my 1971 Camaro Z28 Rally Sport. I have been working on this car for about 3 years now and it has come a long way from the Basket Case it was when I got it. I look for the car for almost 4 years and ended up finding it practically in my backyard in a barn.
A friend of mine told me he had this car but I didn't take him seriously and a year later after an exhaustive search I decided to call his bluff so to speak. He actually had the car! It had just been painted Cortez Silver with a cheap paint and I think it had more dirt on the car than paint. It had no interior, no glass and barely ran. The timing was off so bad that if you ran it for any small amount of time cylinder 7 header glowed! The motor was shot but had potential for a rebuild. This car had been tortured in it's day and looks like it was set up for racing by an amateur with slapper bars and huge 60s on back and small 50s on front with modern 80s era wheels. The car was definitely a basket case and my family thought I was crazy for buying such a heap...but I could see the potential.
I immediately put glass in the car to close up the cab and had the car completely DAed and painted. After paint I immediately set to work on the interior spending many late night hours wrestling with carpet and headliner.
By May of the 2005 the car made it's first show. It was our clubs show so it wasn't actually competing. We got the motor running decent but alternater was not charging and I had to run from home to the event with 2 batteries in the trunk. Also I had to start the car from under the hood. Which was little embarrassing.
But now the car is complete with a rebuilt motor pushing 400 HP. You never stop working on them and I still have plans to do a lot more stuff.
Oh by the way I was entered in a private show of about 25 cars that was judged by Boyd Coddington and won first place last year.
