1937 Cord Phaeton Hard Top (Cord)

Last updated Jul 14, 2010

Photo of a 1937 Cord Phaeton Hard Top (Cord)

No longer owned

My father imported one of these from the US of A to Britain a couple of years after war 2.It was very very impresiive in Britain back then. It even had a radio which was rare in those times. And people used to ask to watch the headlamps come up. It was years ahead of it's time.

Unfortunately it was very unreliable but I wish to God he hadn't sold it on. Wonder where it is now. As far as I can remember there was only one other Cord in the UK at that time which was owned by the wrestler 'Man Mountain Dean'. I was only 7 at the time so never got to drive it. Dad's was a hard top and black unlike the one in the photo.

Know nothing about the specs. I have been told it was front wheel drive and yet another person told me it was four wheel drive. I do remember it used to get clutch problems which, I think, was hydraulic. Any infromation about the Cord would be welcome.
