Very cool story! I don't think I'd buy my high school car's twin, though. I had a base model '65 Chevy II 4-door. On the other hand, I'd jump at my first Corvair's twin!

1959 Ford Custom 300 (The Beast)

Photo of a 1959 Ford Custom 300 (The Beast)

I bought this car the other day -- when I first saw I was taken back as it was the identical car I had in high school. Everything is the same except the trans. The one I had was a 3 speed -- this one is a Fordamatic. 45k on the speedo -- a one owner car.

292ci -- 2 barrel carb.

As it turned out I had to pull the engine and have it rebuilt by a friend of mine, Chuck Willard WAM, a great machinist. He bored out it .040 and installed a 312 CAM. The heads are machined to accept unleaded gas and the compression was uped a little. Should be around 250 hp. I'm gonna look around for a 3x2 intake although the 2 barrel will actually be sufficient but 3 2s sure do look and sound cool. I am installing a T5 5 speed trans with an adapter from John Mummert (a Y-Block specialist (619) 596- 0312) I drove it around with the Fordamatic and it well left me wishing for a stick.
