This was a 1962 Volkswagen which got me through most of high school as a driver. Even though I had flirted with a few other cars this was really my first driver and the photo is from 1969. Purchased from my uncle it evenually got all kinds of modifications over my high school years that transformed it from stock to a corvair powered bug with 5 lug chrome reverse rims on it.
Great little street racer running the street with all the muscle cars of the 60s but the body suffered from Canadian salted roads. I lost my license for 3 months street racing a Cooper S. When I got caught I was so far ahead of the S it became a speeding charge. That 3 month suspension taught me a lesson I have never forgotten to this day and have never got another ticket for speeding since. The car rusted out, was junked and replaced by a 5 year old 1965 Falcon 289 convertible. A nice companion at the time to my 34 Chevy coupe.
